Falling Rock Signs from the Balearic Islands

Andratx, ii.2007; pict. G. De Knijf

This sign is the same as one of the common finds from Spain. It belongs to the second group with six stones and the third one toothlike. The stones are a bit less edgy though.

Our second find (from the same region) is a real eye-catcher. Also six boulders, but with completely different shapes: a drawing-pin, a shoe, an hourglass, kind of a hook. Weird. A boy emptying his pockets?

This one comes also from mainland Spain. It's the very common kind with five boulders and a stone formula of small - big - small - big - flat.

A sign which is clearly inspired by the most widespread Italian warning sign. Notice, however, that the stones show more variation in their shape than the original. The italian rocks are regular hexagons while the balearic version features a tetragon, pentagons, a hexagon, and even a heptagon.
