Pneu UNIO —Bergougnan

In 1885 Raymond Bergougnan founded, together with his brothers, a small workshop in Clermont-Ferrand and they specialized in rubber stamps. Production diversified step by step and in 1898 he founded the Société de Caoutchouc Brut ou Manufacturé, former Establishments Bergougnan et Cie, to develop the production of tires for automobiles and heavy vehicles. During the First World War, Bergougnan was the exclusive supplier of full tires to the French army.
In 1921, Bergougnan opened a factory for rubber products in Evergem-Belzele (Belgium), not far from where this mural is situated. The company was acquired by the Swedish Trelleborg in 1988 and production at the site was discontinued in 1997. Years later it turned out that the soil on the site was full of solvents and that a thick layer of rubber and solvents had formed on the groundwater. In 2018, Trelleborg inaugurated its new European logistics hub and Benelux commercial office at the former Bergougnan site in Evergem.

BANDEN (=tires) B.F. Goodrich

B.F. Goodrich was born as Goodrich, Tew & Co on the last day of 1870: the first rubber manufacturer west of the Appalachians. The company was renamed B.F. Goodrich in 1874. The founder Dr. Benjamin Franklin Goodrich died in 1888.

They started with bicycle tires but went to automobiles very early. In order to expand the market, Goodrich published maps and guidebooks, put directional signs in place and, together with other rubber manufacturers, took part in the good roads movement promoting highway improvements. All to encourage driving.

Later, Goodrich products became important in the aircraft industry. Lindbergh's Spirit was fitted with Goodrich tires!

The company is a member of the Michelin Group since 1989.

or Tires Hutchinson

In 1853 Hiram Hutchinson sets up production in Châlette-sur-Loing near Montargis in France. Having the exclusive rights to use Goodyear's patent he produced waterproof shoes, boots and clothes under the brand name A L'Aigle. Seven years later he starts a second plant in Germany.

During the 1920s Aigle started production of industrial belts and car mats: that was the branch which would become the tires Hutchinson. In the 1960s Aigle bought out the Kléber-Colombes plant.
