The origins of Vals-les-Bains as a spa town date back to the 17th century. A fisherman named discovered the waters of Vals in 1602. He was cured of his gallstones after drinking water from one of the springs of Vals.

Notice that the painting is signed Savignac who was a French graphic artist very famous for his posters.

Raymond Savignac died in October 2002 in Trouville where this wall is located. The Guardian of Saturday 9 November 2002 published an obituary (latest check 13.vii.2023) under the title Brilliant poster artist who brought colour, wit and style to the French advertising industry.
