Falling Rock Signs from Chile

Atacama, 1993

In most countries in South- and Central America Falling Rock Signs featuring a car prevail (e.g. Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, and more). In many of these countries sometimes such a sign without a car can be found, but rarely that many like here in Chile. Which is remarkable.

Also worth noticing is that the warning signs with only rocks and no car, always feature short strokes between the boulders : a feature shared with Peru.

These indicators of the fast movement of the stones merit a closer look. The strokes may be distributed more or less evenly between the rocks; they may come as a short tail to each stone; they may appear as short triangles; there is a wide range of sizes.

Finally, keep an eye on the rockface.
