Mills in Alto Aragón - harinero, central eléctrica

Acumuer

Acumuer lies deep in the valley that it gives its name. From Sabiñánigo follow directions for Larrés and the Museo del dibujo. Take left when you reach Larrés and follow the road below the village. You now enter the valley of the Río Aurín and will pass several bore holes for natural gas. Be ready for some potholes. You will cross the river after some time and eventually reach Acumuer. Park the car in the penultimate hairpin before the village. Don't block the gravel road! Walk along the gravel road. At some point you will cross the GR. Follow the GR-markings and descend into the riverbed. Once down, walk against the stream until you reach the mill.

(1) Overview of the site with pressure tower, tube, and mill — 2000

The waterworks feeding the turbine of the power plant are completely independent of those for the grain mill. They are most impressive and it is a pitty nobody seems to care for it.
The most striking aspect is the presence of a pressure tower built high on the slope above the mill. A pipe, supported by masonry pillars, carries the water down to the turbine (3–6).

(7) Start of the canal at the capture point in the tributary.

The water is taken from a small tributary high on the left bank of the río Aurín. A new maintenance road was built exactly through the capture point and only some traces (7) survived. Most of the canal was still existing at the time of our visit, though not in use any more.
The canal is extremely well built and it runs from the capture point for about 250 m along the slope (8–12) and then drops below an old path (connecting village and pastures) to discharge into the pressure tower (13, 14).

(8) The first part of the channel is closed with flat stones
making it immune for blockage by fallen rocks.
