Birla - Cement - Samrat

Birla was born in 1919 in Birlapur as the Birla Jute Manufac­turing Company of which the name was changed to Birla Corporation in 1998. It is now the flagship company of the Birla Group.

Samrat is a Portland cement produced by Satna, founded in 1957.

Kamal - Cement

Kamal Cement is a brand of Shree Digvijay Cement Co. Ltd. which — under the impulse of Sardar Patel, one of the founding fathers of India — was established in 1942 in Digvijaygram in Gujarat. The company started making cement in 1944.

The logo of the CIMPOR-group (upper left) relates to the fact that the Portuguese acquired almost 54% of Digvijay in 2007.

In 1872 Seth Pragdas Binani started a small import and export company for metals. In 1941 this became a full fledged manufacturing plant as Binani Metal Works. Under the leader­ship of the fourth generation of Binanis, the company explo­red new horizons and grew very rapidly.

In 2008 Binani Cement came up with a (supposedly) unique model in the cement market: pay cash and carry the bag. A campaign for Big B Cement was run. The face of the campaign was Amitabh Bachchan, a famous Indian film actor who is also known as Big B.

In 1977, Thakershibhai Aghara started, together with his 5 brothers, a factory for roofing tiles in Mobi (Gujarat). His son Jitendra, after completing his studies, joined the business in 1990. He started a partnership in what now is Sona cera­mics, but in 2000 the partners decided to separate ways. Silver Brand was born in 2001 and would eventually become Simpolo in 2003.
